Dr. Walter Steven McClain, founder of the Cookeville Chapter of the Red Cross, was a descendant of William Quarles, one of the early settlers of Putnam Co., TN. The photo on the right taken by Harding Studios shows him and his son Victor in uniform with a proud wife and mother Minnie Avery McClain.
