William1 Foster b ca 1750 Amelia Co., VA d bet 7 Mar 1831-11 Apr 1831 Campbell Co., VA m ca 1777 Amelia Co., VA Elizabeth League b ca 1755 Amelia Co., VA d abt 1844 Campbell Co., VA dau of Aaron League. 1756 Amelia Co., VA Tax list in Thomas Tabb District shows James Cheatham, William Foster, William Foster, Thomas Foster, John Foster then two down is Abraham Vasser and Aaron League. The 1761 Amelia Co., VA tax list for Rawleigh Parish by Thomas Tabb has Isaac Duff, James League with Bartho League in household, Thomas Foster, Thomas Foster Jr, and Robert Foster. James Singleton sold to James League on 20 Dec 1757 for 19 pounds 100 acres of land on Flat Creek adjoining Little Walnut Branch, line of William Compton, Crawford’s old line, and John Cook’s line with all houses etc. Witness to deed were Benjamin Cook, William Compton & Joseph Hawkins (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 6 p 324) James Singleton of Caroline Co., VA on 22 Mar 1759 sold to Joseph Noble 83 acres on Northside of Walnut Branch adjoining lines of William Compton, Robert Singleton, Joseph Hawkins, Henry Nelson, John Cook and James League. Witnesses to deed were William Compton, James "X" League and Robert "X" Singleton. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 6 p 464) William Compton on 22 Jan 1759 sold for 30 pounds 100 acres of land to Aaron League adjoining Robert Singleton, James League and Philip Williams with all houses, etc. Witnessess to deed were Ben Cook, William Ray and Stephen Howell. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 6 p 469) William Dearen on 16 Apr 1771 sold 83 acres of land for 10 pounds on branches of Walnut Branch and Sand Creek to William Pillow adjoining the land of Aaron League, James League, William Mullins, Obediah Hendrick, Stephen Johnson and John Singleton. Witnesses to deed were John Jesse, William Mullins and Jasper Pillow. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 11 page 320) William "X" Jesse of Essex Co., VA on 2 Dec 1779 sold for 700 pounds 40 acres of land in Nottoway Parish to William Foster of Nottoway Parish adjoining James League, Philip Williams, Peter Webster and Sherwood Walton. Witnesses to deed were Benjamin League, Elijah "X" Parmer and Edmond League. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 15 page 261) Phillip Williams Sr on 23 Apr 1783 sold for 100 pounds 210 acres of land on a branch of Flat Creek called Walnut Creek to Phillip Williams, Jr adjoining lines of Benjamin Overton, Phillip Williams, Sr, James League, William Foster and Anthony Webster. Witnesses to the ded were John Gooch, Alexander Roberts and John Harper. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 16 p 204) William Foster on 22 Sep 1807 sold 81 acres of land on both sides of Walnut Branch to Anthony Webster adjoining lines of James League, Philip Williams and Anthony Webster. (Amelia Co., VA Deed BK 20 page 285) William Foster of Amelia Co., VA in 1807 purchased for 300 pounds 325 acres of land in Campbell Co., VA from John Lane and Mary his wife adjoining lands of David Talbot, Thomas Ball, Armistead Carter, Dodman Sledge, Richard Rutledge, John Monroe and Josiah Sutton. The deed was recorded on 13 Apr 1807 (Campbell Co., VA Deed BK 7 page 563) Oral tradition in Foster and Lane families is that Nancy Jane Foster Lane was a charter member of first Baptist Church in Campbell Co., VA. This does not appear to be completely accurate as there were Baptist churches in Campbell County prior to her having lived there. It is probable that she was a charter member of a new Baptist Church in Campbell County as Fosters and related families were active in Baptist Church. This is shown by signing the 10,000 Name Legislative Petition by Baptists on 13 June 1775. Signing were, Joel Cheatum (199), Eppes Cheatman (201), Bejn League (203), John Foster (206), William Foster (207), John Foster (207), Joab League (207), Bat League (207), James League (207), and James League (207). (Magazine of Virginia Genealogy, Vol 35 Summer 97 #3) Others signing (Vol 37 May 99 #2) were on page 148 Aaron League, Edmond League, Claiborne Foster and Richard Foster. Epps Foster filed an affidavit that he was present when his Uncle, Edmond League, married Mary Beadle. He said they were married by Baptist Minister a distant relative, Robert Foster. He also said at the time they lived in Amelia County one mile from grandfather League, Aaron League. This is consistent with above deed that they lived near Aaron and James League on Walnut Branch of Flat Creek which is in Southwest Amelia County near Nottoway County and Prince Edward County lines. It appears that from deeds and tax records that William, Claiborne and John Foster lived in same area and probably closely related. They all owned small acreage of land, ie 40-50 acres each. On the 1787 Virginia Tax list B taken on 3-13 is listed Claiborne Foster, Robert Foster, James Hurt, William Jackson, John Johnson, John Johnson Jr, William Kennon, Robert Ligon, Benja Meadows, Joseph Nobles, Obadiah Nunnally, Thomas Osborne, William Pillow, Nicholas Vaughan, William Ward; those taken on 3-14 were Lewis Atkerson, Edmund Booker Jr, David Ellington, Peter Farley, William Foster, Aron Leg (League), Edmund Leg (League), James Leg (League), John Lockett, Math Lockett, Winnefred Lockett, John Nobles, James Seay, Thomas Seay, Ann Wray, ThomasWright; and those on 3-15 were Thomas Atkerson, Augustin Beadle, John Beadle and Thomas Beadle. William made his will on 7 Mar 1831 and it was probated in Campbell Co., VA on 11 Apr 1831. (Campbell Co., VA Will Bk 6 page 511) Inventory of Estate was on 9 Jan 1832 (Campbell Co., VA Will BK 7 page 58) Acount of Estate was on (Campbell Co., VA Will Book 9 page 375).

Elizabeth League Foster was named in her father, Aaron League's will, and members of her family, Epps and Joel Foster, and Nancy Foster Lane all moved to what is now DeKalb County, Tennessee where her brother, Edmund League, lived.   It appears that Elizabeth died about 1844 as her son-in-law, Alex. (Alexander) Asher was in Court of Campbell Co., VA as administrator of her estate.  This must have been Elizabeth League Foster as on 25 Nov 1844 in DeKalb Co., TN; Joel and Epps Foster appointed Tilman Foster as their attorney to collect from estate of William Foster, decd.  It would appear to me that they now knew their mother had died and wanted to collect their share of their father's estate.  (DeKalb Co., TN Deed BK B p 488).
