Other Buffalo Valley people living near them in Schuyler County were: Nathaniel Glover, George, Moses, William, Jr., and William Skiles, Sr., Jonathan Smith, and David Wallace. By 1832 They had moved back to Buffalo Valley, where he entered 25 acres of land on 7 Oct. 1835. 58 This land was surveyed on 17 Nov. 1836 with Bird S. and John Jones as chain carriers. He is listed on 1836 Tax List of Jackson County, Tenneesse in District 13 with one white poll and 25 acres of land. Children:58

IRA8 CARR, (John), b ca 1827 Buffalo Valley, Jackson Co., TN d 19 Oct. 1871 Buffalo Valley, Putnam Co., TN m 9 Mar. 1847 Buffalo Valley, Jackson Co., TN Mary Jane Lack b ca 1827 d ca 1896 Buffalo Valley, Putnam Co., TN dau of Edward Lack. Ira purchased from Viney (Luvina) Tucker, on or before 1855, 33 1/3 acres of land in District 13, Jackson County, in Buffalo Valley. Both Luvina and Ira are listed as of Jackson County, Tennessee. Luvina states in the deed, "Part of land I now live on which was sold by order of County Court of Jackson County, and beginning on the west line of the original survey".59

It appears that this 33 1/3 acres was part of the 75 acres that Ira sold to Prettyman Jones on 2 April 1867.60 At this time the land was in District 9, Putnam County, in Buffalo Valley. It began near head of Isaac Scudder Spring with line to west line of Sarah Jones line North to Povey Garners line, and east with his line. It appears that this land was part of the land owned by Prettyman and Sarah Jones. During the Civil War Ira served in the Union Army. On 21 Oct. 1863 he enlisted as a Private in Co. C, 1st Tenn MTD Inf., and the Company Commander was Capt. Francis Marion Anderson. After Anderson resigned in early 1864, Ira's first cousin, Wade Jones, became the Company Commander. In his wifes pension application is the petition of Prettyman Jones, Sr.; Ira's Uncle. In the petition Prettyman states that Ira lived with him from the age of 14 years until he married on 9 March 1847, and that after his marriage he always lived within half mile to mile of Prettyman. During the War Ira apparently sustained an injury in which the rim of his belly was broken and his bowels would come down.61 This petition by Prettyman indicates the close relationship of the Jones and Carr families. Ira was a farmer. The 1850 Jackson County Agricultural Census lists him with 6 acres of improved land, 60 acres of unimproved land, 2 oxen, 6 sheep, 15 swine, and that his farm produce yearly was 6 bushels wheat, 650 bushels corn, 6 lbs wool, 3 bushels peas & beans, 25 bushels irish potatoes, and 50 lbs of butter. In 1870 Agricultural Census of Putnam County Ira is listed with 30 acres improved land, 28 acres unimproved land, 1 horse, 1 mule, 1 milk cow, 2 oxen, 30 swine, and his yearly farm produce was 90 bushels of wheat, 500 bushels corn, 30 bushels irish potatoes, 25 bushels orchard produce, 75 lbs butter 12 lbs beeswax, and 250 lbs honey. In 1850 Andrew Carr and his brother, John Wesley Carr, were living in the household of their Uncle, Byrd S. Jones, in District 9, Buffalo Valley, Jackson County, Tennessee. In 1860 he and John W. Carr were living with Thomas Duke in District 9, Buffalo Valley, Putnam County, Tennessee. In 1870 Andrew and Kiddy lived next to her father, Robert Smith, in District 13, Putnam County. Andrew was a farmer and in 1870 Putnam County Agricultural census he had 20 acres of improved land, 5 acres of woodland, and 35 acres of unimproved land. He owned one horse, one milk cow, 1 other cattle, and 11 hogs. His farm produce was 32 bushels winter wheat, 100 bushels corn, 20 bushels oats, 4000 lbs tobacco, 15 bushels sweet potatoes, and 50 lbs butter. By 1880 he and Kiddy had moved to District 16, Wolf Creek, DeKalb County. On Wolf Creek they lived on 125 acres of land that her father had deeded to them on 11 Mar 1871.63 Their house was a log cabin that was still in use in the 1960's. The cabin had a kitchen off from house where most of the cooking was done.

It appears that Andrew's and Kiddy's lifestyle was one in which they produced all of their food, etc. on their farm. We feel that Andrew was primarily a subsistence type farmer. Their granddaughter Nina Jones Moss relates that their supper, evening meal, each night consisted of big white biscuits baked in a dutch oven, bacon, and grease gravy. She described Kiddy as being about 5 foot 8 inches tall, thin, and having a long nose. One of the big events in Kiddy's life was going to New Orleans, prior to her marriage, with two of her Wyatt half brothers. The half brothers worked on steamboats, and took her with them on one of the trips. She saw a bear, and stopped in Baton Rouge, Louisana. Her half brothers purchased for her some fine clothes and a hat with beads around it. She had four half brothers, Bill, Tom, Jim, and Frank Wyatt. Children:
