Alexander P. Barnes Family

Pictured: here is the Alexander P. Barnes family. From L to R: Fannie Terry Barnes, Ethel Barnes Darwin, Zeb Barnes, Matalee Barnes Mitchell, Jere B. Barnes and Alex P. Barnes. Alex P. Barnes was a successful merchant in Cookeville and was mayor in 1923. Zeb Barnes operated a shoe store on West Broad Street. Ethel married Charles Darwin, a partner in the Jenkins and Darwin's dry goods store, and Matalee married John A. Mitchell, who was district attorney general and later judge on the court of appeals in Tennessee.
