Willis served two tours of dury in the Tennessee Militia. The first tour was in Capt. Hollimon’s Co, 1st Regt (Wynn’s) West TN Militia from Oct. 1813 - Jan. 1814 in General Jackson’s campaign against the Creek Indians. His second tour was in Captain Mathew Cowen’s Co, 3rd Regt (Roulston’s) TN Militia from Nov. 13, 1814 - May 13, 1815, during the War of 1812. He was with General Jackson and participated in the Battle of New Orleans. For this last service he was awarded a Land Warrant for 160 acres of land.
