John Byrd Dow

John Byrd Dow was the son of David Linneas Dow and Emily Harris Dow. A prominent businessman and civic leader, he was state representative form Putnam County in 1901. In 1911 he was elected mayor of Cookeville and was Postmaster for eight years. He was one of the founders of The University of Dixie and also a trustee of the university. He was married to Elizabeth Owen. They were the parents of David Dow, Rose Dow (Mrs. Curtis) DuBois, Mrs. Bruce Angus and Mrs. Howard Duncan. Photo courtesy of David Dow.
